Lesson Observation Tracker

At Otherways Education we have developed an easy to use system to track the quality of lessons being delivered, enabling quick and easy analysis of strengths and areas for further development across the teaching staff at a school.
The Lesson Observation Tracker will readily support the requirements of the new Ofsted Framework (Jan 2012) giving the school evidence of how well it is doing. The programme also supports Performance Management of staff, analysis by subject, year group, class group – and also elements of a lesson.

The disc comes with a pre-populated set of criteria for judging a lesson as well as a blank version enabling schools to insert their own criteria if they so wish.

What will the program do?

Once the school inputs data of staff names, year groups, class groups and subject areas the program can then be populated with the outcomes of lesson observations.

The system grades lessons as Very Good (1- or in Ofsted language Outstanding), Good (2), Satisfactory (3) or Needing Extra Support (4 – or in Ofsted language Unsatisfactory).

Within each grade we have sub-divided this into strong in the grade, secure in the grade or better than the grade below. The reason for this is to highlight to staff exactly where they stand within a grade and gives them opportunity to develop and strengthen their teaching in the future.

The pre-populated aspects of lesson observations include the quality of teaching, learning and progress of pupils, pupil behaviour, the start and end of lessons as well as well as the use of assessment.

Dependent upon the grade/sub grade being awarded by the Lesson Observer this, once recorded on the tracker, will be highlighted in red, yellow, green or blue to give a visual indication as to the assessments being made.

The program will indicate how well teachers are performing, how well specific classes are being taught and also how well subjects are being delivered.
