Chris Leach

Chris has worked in Education for the past 16 years. Initially qualified as a Nursery Nurse, Chris began his career in a school nursery. After working with Children with Special Educational Needs in mainstream school, he moved to a special school providing specialist education and support for children with autism.

Since 2005, Chris has had the role of ICT Specialist. As well as planning and teaching across the full age range, meeting the diverse needs of individuals and groups, this role has allowed him to create bespoke software, removing the barriers created by commercial materials.

Another fundamental part of his role has been to develop the use of ICT hardware motivating the students and accommodating their specific needs or difficulties. Together, these have resulted in a paper being published regarding his work and him becoming a major part of a European funded project exploring ICT and the development of collaborative skills for young people with autism.

More recent developments centre on the creation and implementation of whole school tracking systems to demonstrate and monitor the progress and attainment of students with SEN. Encompassing an appropriate rate of progress for such pupils in a manageable and self-populating format enables schools to become data rich quickly and simply that is fundamental for school evaluation and continued improvement.
